The global motorcycle media gathered in Mallorca, Spain, to experience the updated Speed Twin 1200 and the all-new Speed Twin 1200 RS during the international press ride. Triumph gave their fans and followers the chance to ask us their questions about the two new models. Here’s everything you need to know, answered by the Triumph team!
Q) What is the wet weight?
A) The new Speed Twin 1200 weighs 216kg wet. Our engineers worked diligently to integrate new technology while maintaining the same lightweight agility.
Q) Is the RS the spiritual successor to the Thruxton?
A) With accessory clip-on bars and a seat cowl available, it’s easy to create a modern take on the classic café-racer. It offers the same stylish silhouette and more focused ergonomics, combined with the contemporary design of the Speed Twin.
Q) How much BHP does the Speed Twin 1200 have?
A) The Speed Twin 1200 now delivers 105PS of peak power—a 5PS increase—while maintaining its signature rich torque delivery and immediate response across the rev range.
Q) When do bikes arrive in Brazil?
A) The new model is being produced now. Please contact your local dealer to find out when it’s available near you.
Q) What is the difference in the seating position compared to the outgoing model?
A) There are two versions available:
Speed Twin 1200: Wider bars (14mm total), positioned higher (17.8mm) and further forward (13.4mm). The seat height remains virtually unchanged, with footpegs in the same natural position as before.
Speed Twin 1200 RS: Lower bars (16.2mm), further forward (9mm), a slightly higher seat (5mm), and higher footpegs (6.5mm), positioned further back (40mm).
Q) Is the Shift Assist available on both models or exclusive to the RS?
A) The RS comes with Triumph Shift Assist two-way quickshifter as standard.
Q) How many colours are available?
A) The Speed Twin 1200 is available in Aluminium Silver, Crystal White, and Carnival Red, while the RS comes in Baja Orange and Sapphire Black.
Q) Does it come with inbuilt music controls?
A) The new models are compatible with the My Triumph Connectivity Module, which provides turn-by-turn navigation and music control.
Q) Can the spring rate be customised for smaller riders?
A) Both bikes have rear pre-load adjustment, and the RS offers full adjustability for compression and rebound, front and rear.
Q) Will it fit a taller rider above 6ft?
A) Yes! Sounds like a great excuse for a test ride.
Q) Why did you get rid of the analogue dials?
A) Speed models have always blended contemporary technology with classic design cues, and this evolution enhances both form and function.
Our goal for the new bike was to offer more advanced features, including Optimised Cornering ABS and Traction Control, phone connectivity, navigation, and automatic DRL. The new instruments present this information clearly, while the circular design complements the bike’s clean, modern style.
For those who prefer pure heritage aesthetics, the Bonneville T120 might be the perfect bike for you.
Q) What is the average fuel consumption?
A) In Europe, the official fuel consumption is 4.4 L/100km (64.2mpg). While these are standard test results, real-world riding may vary—perfect for extended weekend rides.
Q) Does it come with a USB charging port near the handlebars?
A) Yes, the bike includes a USB-C port on the side of the instrument for convenient charging.
